How do you get vaseline out of suede shoes?

i know that you can clean dirt off suede shoes by holding them over a steaming kettle and brushing but i'm not sure that that would work for vaseline, you might just end up smearing it in. I would go to the place that sold you the shoes and ask them. They shouldn't charge you anything just to ask. x
