Most Christians and Science: Will history repeat itself? How long will it take?

I hate to be morbid, but I think if the oppression by the Xian church started to rise to the same level as it did during the dark ages there would be lots of Xians disappearing off of the streets and it wouldn't be due to the Rapture I can tell you. People wouldn't stand by and just be macred by religious fanatics as they did in the past.
