Do a State Trooper get to bring his patrol car home free without rank?
My brother-in-law is a retired officer and he did not get to take his vehicle home. However, it depends on the ignment, the department and the policies of that jurisdiction.. Some jurisdictions allow officers take-home cars in order that they can respond to calls or accident investigations from home. In other instances if you had a specialized ignment you got a take-home car. Many departments don't have the budget for providing take-home vehicles where one vehicle may be used for several shifts. So, it's going to depend on the department and the ignment.
